About NITK The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, located on the western coast of India, is rated as one of the top technological universities in India. NITK has a fully residential lush green 300-acre campus with a beach of its own. Since its inception in 1960 as the Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), it has evolved in to an institution imparting quality technical education at both undergraduate and post-graduate and research levels. The Institute has a long tradition of research for several decades in both traditional and modern areas of engineering and sciences in all departments. The institute has 14 departments, about 200 talented and dedicated faculties and over 4000 students and several centers of excellence. Continuous upgradation and modernization of facilities has placed NITK with the best in the business The institute is located 22 kilometers north of Mangalore city along the Kanyakumari-Mumbai National Highway 17, amid sylvan surroundings with the picturesque Western Ghats on the east and sun-kissed sands of the Arabian Sea to the west. NITK is easily accessible from all parts of the country. Being situated right on the NH-17, the institute and the campus is very well connected by bus routes to North and South. Mangalore is also connected by NH-48 to Bangalore and there are a number of luxury buses plying daily between Mangalore and Bangalore. Surathkal, on the Konkan Railway (linking Mumbai to Kanyakumari), is the nearest railway station and is a stopover for most trains passing through Konkan Railway. While Surathkal and Kankanady are the closest alighting points for visitors coming by train from North; Mangalore is the terminus for many trains from south India. The Mangalore International airport is just 20 km from the campus. NITK is also a focal point of visits to important places of pilgrimage and Archeological sites like, Dharmastala, Subramanya, Kollur, Kateel, Karkala, Udupi, Murudeshwara, Moodabidri,. Belur, Halebidu, Bekal Fort etc. |
